As post-harvest fish losses occur in most (if not all) fish distribution chains, the maintenance or increase in the profitability of fishing operations is attributable to efficient post harvest practices and the effective training of those engaged in the harvesting and processing of Fishery and Fishery products.

This a critical issue often disregarded in the fisheries development sector.
